waka waka AFRICA! Morocco

So this last weekend I went to Morocco in Africa! It was with another foreign student program called Discover Sevilla & about 5 of my girlfriends and I went. It was so much fun! Morocco's tourism didnt started up until about the last 10 years and some cities are really making an effort to clean up and make it more appealing to tourists. One of our guides was so surprised at how clean the town we visited was.

This was my first glance at Africa from Spain!

The ferry from Tarifa Spain to Tangier Morocco.

It's about the nicest boat I've ever been on

Katie & I

Katie, Me, Rachel & Kristin
Freshly arrived in Morocco and exchanged our moola

Our hotel in Mâdiq, it was right on the coast of the Mediterranean Sea,
&& we had such a warm welcome when we got to the hotel, These guys were playing
outside of the hotel and then came into the dining area && it was just so cool!

The Countryside of Morocco, these are the Rif mountains

The little town we saw was Tétouan. this is the central sqaure of the old part of the city.

An old well

Many of the houses, bascically all of them are painted white and blue. Number one it keeps the bugs away but it has more meaning than just that. The blue coloring represents God and the white represents peace.

The town usually repaints 3 or 4 times a year to keep it fresh.

The Market.

This was a hotel I stopped in for a potty break & the guide told me it was a $2 million dollar hotel!!! Wow

I love the rooftops here

This wall is called the "madina". It is what separates the old and new part of the city, it had surrounded the old part of the city from danger.

Katie & I over Tétouan

This is where we ate lunch, it is called "Casa Aladin". it Had a TON of character and we ate on the roof and the food was awesome!

The beach at our hotel, Mediterranean Sea.

This makes me really sad, the beach had a whole stripe of just trash everywhere.

We got to watch the moon rise over the sea && it was about the prettiest thing I have ever seen, the colors were awesome and it was just so breathtaking, I took soooo many pictures!

That night our salad had this cute little tomato rose on it, just a tough of character.

Katie had gotten a henna tattoo on her hand that day & was afraid it would get on her face in her sleep so I was making fun of her being Michael jackson.

The camel rides! Oh my goodness this was a hoot and a half! It was a very short ride, like a pony ride really, but it was a lot of fun. This was the only camel that had 2 people on it and we just hopped on it and off we went!

The guy pulling us was so hilarious, he didn't know how to say anything other than "fast!" & "oh my gosh!" he said it a lot, it was hilarious

Going down was scarier than getting up

The Atlantic Ocean in Tangiers before we went on the ferry.

We were suppose to take a tour of Tangiers after the camel rides, but we were informed that there was going to be a national protest so we needed to cut the trip short. Which was fine with me because I was over morocco already. I really enjoyed the trip, it was so eyeopening to put in words.

Ya Europe is another culture from The U.S., but Morocco is a developing country and it was neat to see something totally different than what I am use to. I think I handled it better than other girls because i know how to live the life of a camper, most girls didn't like the toilet facilities at all.I'm sure I could go again, it's just a little too foreign for me.

It makes me wonder if I could really do the peace corps for 2 years in a developing country. I'm sure I would adjust but still.
